RANFURLY SHIELD
MANAWATU AND OTAGO CONTROVERSY.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, This Day.
Otago’s attitude concerning Manawatu’s Ranfurly Shield challenge was unaltered after a special meeting this norning, when it was decided to advise the New Zealand Union that Otago was prepared to meet Mana.watu on the only available >date, September 24. It was decided to send a '.pecial telegram to the Union pointing out that representative fixtures for the reason were already arranged and that August 13 was required for the final of the local Cup club games, that Otago played Canterbury on August 10, and protested against two Shield games in one week. Mr Harris said Mr Ongley, of Manawatu, had quoted Rule F regarding the automatic transfer of challenges, but had neglected to quote th° latter part of the clause, which provided for mutual agreement on the date, or, failing this, a decision by the New Zealand Council.
