RESPONSE TO THE APPEAL FOR FUNDS. PROGRAMME OF EXTENSIONS & IMPROVEMENTS. (British Official Wireless.) (Recd -This Day, 10.8 a.m.) RUGBY, August 3. t The public appeal for Oxford University was closed on July 31. Apart from Lord NOffield’s major benefactions, which include £lOO,OOO to build and equip a new physical chemistry laboratory, the grand total received from all sources to July 26 was £463,121. The University’s programme, to which the sum subscribed will be devoted, includes extensions to the Bodleian Library and Ashmolean Museum, the establishment of a centre for the study of the social sciences, physical chemistry laboratory equipment, the alteration of the old Clarendon Laboratory to meet the demands of the Geology Department and £30,000 towards the rebuilding of the Physiology Laboratory. The next stage of the University’s programme includes a new laboratory for botany and the completion of the Physiology and Geology laboratories, which will be undertaken as soon as funds are available.
