STATE THEATRE
“FIT FOR A KING.” Joe E. Brown and Paul Kelly appear as rival newshawks in “Fit For a King” the comedian’s latest mirth vehicle produced by David L. Loew for RKO Radio release, and which will be shown tonight. In a sidesplitting story which tells of deep dark plots in a mythical European kingdom, Brown and Kelly battle each other and mutual enemies for the news and facilities for putting their stories on the wires. A large cast of favourites is seen in support, with lovely Helen Mack appearing as the feminine lead. Others are Harry Davenport, Halliwell Hobbes, John Qualen, Donald Briggs, Frank Reicher, Russell Hicks and Charles Trowbridge. The second big feature, “Rawhide,” stars Lou Gehrig in his first movie appearance, with beautiful blonde Evalyn Knapp. Co-star Smith Ballew, lanky cowboy singer, has a law office in town, and when Gehrig refuses to join the cattlemen’s “protective” association —run by a group of big-town racketeers — Gehrig, Ballew and the girl band together to battle it out in the most exciting game ever played.
Tomorrow “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” will be shown.
