THE STRATOSPHERE
NEW EXPLORATION PLAN. BIGGEST BALLOON EVER BUILT. LONDON, August 3. The “Daily Telegraph” says that the biggest balloon ever built is being completed in preparation for an attempt in September on an ascent to the stratosphere from Zakpoani, Poland, to an altitude of 15 miles by the Polish airmen Captains Zbigniew, Burzynski and F. R. Hynek, of the Polish Army, winners of the Gordon Bennett balloon race of 1933, and Dr Yodo Nanewicz. The balloon has a capacity of 4,800, 000 cubic feet, is 460 feet high and has a gondola of aluminium steel.
