Many Happy Returns.

Many happy returns of the day are now in order for all horses engaged in the serious business of racing. Officialdom has declared August 1 as the birthday of all horses registered with the New Zealand Racing and New Zealand Trotting Conferences. In actual fact a horse may be months younger than the number of years he is called on to carry, but August 1 is the standard day fixed for the birth of a new racing season and the horses automatically advance another year. The day has no significance for the horse of humble parentage which plods the streets pulling a carrier’s cart or delivery van of any form and in his case, age may only be determined by an inspection of the mouth. To the racehorses, rugged and wellcared for, the order of the day is business as usual.
