ROAD CYCLING

NOTES ON SATURDAY’S RACE. (By “Three-Speed.”) In the Wairarapa Club’s 22-mile race on Saturday C. Gourlay performed well to score another victory which was thoroughly deserved. P. Mayes rode exceptionally well to gain second place. He should be on the back mark very soon. W. Gay did very well to gain third place. R. Copp and J. Brader went very well indeed to gain first and second fastest times, respectively. K. Woollett, who failed to catch the limit men, gained third fastest time. B. Dooling and E. Lefort did not ride on Saturday. When these boys get rid of their colds they will turn out again. M. Graham found the pace a little too fast for him on the return journey. L. Green and his brother found the task a hard one with no co-marker riding with them. C. Dykes, who always competes, rode very well and he only had 30 secs on J. McAliece, who failed to catch him. ~D. Wishart found the going too hard for him. R. Killington is getting into his stride and we should hear more of him later in the season. G. Swain could do with more training. B. Harman was not a starter on Saturday but the club want him out j next week. 1 On the whole the cyclists perform- 1 ed very well indeed, considering the 1 very cold conditions. Most of them < could do with a bit more training. They should practice sprinting a little j more. i
