RANFURLY SHIELD
PROTEST BY THE MANAWATU UNION. POSTPONEMENT OF CHALLENGE MATCH. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, This Day. The Manawatu Rugby Union decided last evening to protest to the New Zealand Union against the Manawatu challenge for the Ranfurly Shield, being put back to September 24 by Otago. The president, Mr A. M. Ongley, said it was now laid down that the challenges shall follow the Shield. He maintained that Manawatu’s challenge, which had been accepted’ by Southland for August 13, should be honoured by Otago on the latter date.
