COUNCIL MAKES INCREASE (By Telegraph—Press Association.)' CHRISTCHURCH, August 1. The striking of a general rate for the current financial year of 27-8 d in the pound on the unimproved value was authorised by the Christchurch City Council tonight. This year’s expenditure, however, includes £27,800 for works begun last year, but not completed. The increased general rate is estimated to provide £134,691, which, with a credit balance of £42,413 at April 1 and licence fees, etc., will make the required sum of £241,096. ' There will be a transfer of £32,000 from the quarry account, but none from the funds of the municipal electricity department.
