Experts at Kew, in London, have been making experiments to discover what effect artificial daylight has on flowers. London in winter, with its fogs and next-to-no light, naturally does not encourage plants to grow. By artificially increasing daylight to 12 hours in winter it was found that cinerarias, begonias, and other flowers flowered earlier and lasted longer than usual.
