WRESTLING
DETTON BEATS MEEHAN. A COLOURFUL BOUT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. In a bout marked by much clever wrestling and plenty of elbow jolts, drop-kicks, head throws and flying tackles, Dean Detton, ex-heavyweight champion of the world, beat Pat Meehan. the Canadian, by one fall, obtained with a jack-knife hold in the sixth round, at the Wellington Town Hall last night. It was a colourful bout from start to finish and the rapid action greatly pleased a well-filled house. Meehan had the advantage in height and weight, scaling 16.4 to Detton’s 15.2, but Detton more than made up for this by science and fighting spirit.
