WATERLOO CUP
MASTERTON DOGS SUCCESS. COURSING ENTHUSIASTS DELIGHTED. , “The success of Masterton-owned dogs in winning the coveted Waterloo Cup and dividing the stake for the Waterloo Purse,” said Mr J. Bradbury, president of the Wairarapa Coursing Club, this morning, “shows that the standard of Wairarapa dogs is at least equal to anything in New Zealand.” Mr Bradbury added that The Clipper, which won the Waterloo Cup, had not lost a course this year. Naturally, Wairarapa coursing enthusiasts were delighted at the success achieved and had quiet hopes of being able to secure the running of the Australasian Waterloo event, which was about due to be held in New Zealand. No doubt, he added, the successes at Invercargill would focus attention on Wairarapa’s claims for consideration. In the final of the Cup, in which The Clipper, owned by Mr James T. Taylor, Masterton, defeated Wilga's Worry by 41 points to 31 points, both dogs got away from an even slip. The Clipper got the turn and an exciting give-and-take course ensued, with the hare showing too much speed for the dogs.
