SPARKLING RUGBY
FINE WIN BY ALL BLACKS OVER QUEENSLAND SPEED & ENTERPRISE SHOWN BY TOURISTS. TAYLOR AND MORRISON STARS OF THE GAME. By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. BRISBANE, July 30. The speed and enterprise of the three-quarters gave the All■. Blacks a convincing victory by 30 points to 9 in their match against Queensland. The stars of the game were Taylor and Morrison, who amassed 18 points between them. A crowd of 7000 enjoyed the sparkling open play of the visitors. The home team badly lacked inside backs to rival the dash of Saxton and Berghan, and were handicapped by a meagre share of the ball from the scrums and lineouts. In the first half the Queenslanders stood up to the task manfully and, except for two quick tries scored early by the visitors, excelled in cover defending. The forwards, principally Monti and Oxlade, gave no quarter, and at half-time were attacking fiercely. A change came over the play in the second half when the All Blacks applied strong pressure and their back line tore through to register 20 points. Their line was not crossed in this half, Queensland’s only points coming from a penalty. The All Blacks’ success had its beginning in the manner in which the forwards gained possession from the scrums and lineouts, allowing the fastmoving three-quarters to launch attack after attack until the home team weakened. Good following up by McKenzie earned him a well-merited try and he was the only forward to score. At full-back Taylor was outstanding, his handling and judgment in line-kick-ing constantly turning attack into defence. Apart from Taylor, none impressed more than Morrison. He frequently dashed across the field to make a man over in the backline movement. His try was the result of an enterprising run. The crowd was thrilled by the diving passes of Saxton from the scrum base, which placed the three-quarters on the move before the roving forwards could, use their stopping tactics. He proved himself a quick thinker, taking advantage of loose defending. His try was a gem. Berghan and Sullivan displayed perfect understanding. If one broke through, the other was handy to take a pass. f Tries were scored for New Zealand by Wright, Saxton, McKenzie, -Morrison and Sullivan, four being converted by Taylor, who also, kicked a penalty, while Morrison kicked a field goal. ■. • i SECOND TEST.
