AT POSSIET BAY
RUSSO=JAPANESE CLASH REPORTED ATTACK BY SOVIET TROOPS. SIMULTANEOUS BOMBARDMENT OF KOREAN TOWNS. HSINKING, July 31. A Communique issued today states that Soviet troops attacked Japanese and Manchukoan patrols near Changkufeng (Possiet Bay) yesterday with infantry and tanks. Japanese artillery repulsed them, inflicting 200 casualties, including 30 dead, and capturing 11 tanks, two guns and other arms. As a result, Changkufeng has been completely reoccupied after six hours’ fighting. Simultaneously, states the communique,'the Russians concentrated on the northern border at Korea and bombarded the towns of Kojo and Sokan. PROTEST BY SOVIET. EACH SIDE BLAMES THE OTHER. MOSCOW, July 30. The Soviet Government is protesting against a Japanese intrusion on to Soviet territory near Changkufeng (Possiet Bay) yesterday. Soviet troops repelled the invaders, and some were killed on both sides. The Japanese previously ascribed the incident to an intrusion by Soviet forces. JAPAN ALSO PROTESTS (Recd This Day, 9.15 a.m.) MOSCOW, July 31. Japan has protested to Russia in connection with the Changkufeng attack.
