DENOUNCED BY THE POPE PREFERENCE FOR UNIVERSAL IDEAL. STRONGLY-WORDED WARNING TO ITALY. (Recd This Day, 10.10 a.m.) ROME, July 25. The Pope strongly condemned racial and nationalistic doctrines, asking why Italy should feel the necessity of disgracefully imitating Germany. Too many people forgot that human beings were of one universal race. Catholicism meant universality, not doctrines of race and nationalism.DOLLFUSS MURDER. VATICAN CONDEMNS NAZI CELEBRATIONS. ROME, July 29. The Vatican City newspaper, “Osservatore Romano,” severely condemns Monday’s celebrations in Vienna in honour of the Dollfuss murderers. .It says: “Neither Planetta nor his accomplices can be considered heroes nor cited in words of praise or gratitude as being among the best Germans. Austria is faced with the fact that he fired a pistol at the back of a helpless man in cold blood and obstinately refused to allow medical aid which could have saved Dollfuss.”
