The Rt Hon M. J. Savage, Prime Minister, left Wellington for the South Island last night. In a letter written to a friend in Greytown, Mr W. H. Day, states that he was enjoying his stay in London and that in company with Mr A. Hendry, of Masterton, he was seeing the sights of the city. A tribute to the president, the Hon W. Perry, M.L.C., was paid by the Dominion Council of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association at the annual meeting in Wellington yesterday, when he was unanimously reelected as president, and a vote of confidence in him was passed. The Rev Father J. E. Eccleton, formerly on the staff of St Patrick's College, and now parish priest at Tauranga, will leave New Zealand on August 17 on a two months’ trip to the Dutch East Indies and Singapore. He has already received a handsome presentation from his parishioners. At a banquet in his honour at Taumarunui, the King Country Rugby Union presented Mr J. Lynskey with a wallet and cheque for £5O, which was subscribed to mark his retirement as a Rugby administratoi- after 45 years’ connection with the game. Mr Lynskey was a well-known coach, and Mark Nicholls received his early training from him when Mr Lynskey was schoolmaster at Petone. Mr Lynskey has been actively associated with football in the King Country for the past 13 years. Letters from all parts of New Zealand paying tribute to him were read at the banquet. Mr Lynskey formerly resided in Eketahuna.
