LONDON QUOTATIONS FIRST QUALITY LAMB FIRM Lamb market: Tendency of market is firm for first quality with second quality slow and irregular. Mutton market: Wethers and ewes, easier, owing to heavier supplies and slow trade. Beef market: Chilled beef, easier this week owing to heavier supplies. New Zealand porker pigs: Trade slow with lightweights slightly easier. New Zealand baconer pigs: Market quiet and unchanged. The above report was received yesterday by the Meat Board from its London office, which advises that the following are the ruling prices of wholesale quantities of the descriptions of frozen meat mentioned and are for representative parcels of the goods sold on i Thursday. Chilled beef prices are averages of the week. All prices are on the basis of delivered to Smithfield market. Prices for the previous week are shown in parentheses:— New- Zealand Sheep.—Crossbred wethers and/or maiden ewes: 481 b and under, s}d (5Jd); 491 b to 561 b, 5d (53d); 571 b to 641 b, 43d (sd); 651 b to 721 b, 4£d (43d). Ewes: 481 b and under, 33d (33d); 491 b to 561 b, 33d (3 3-8 d); 571 b to 641 b, 3 l-8d (3 l-8d); 651 b to 721 b, 3d (3d).

Best North Island crossbred lambs, 28/36, 7 3-8 d; 36/42, 7 3-Bd. North Island second quality lambs, average 30/31, 63d. Best North Island wether sheep, under 48, 53d; 48/56, sd; 56/64, 4.3 d; 64/72, 4Jd. North Island ewes, under 48, 33; 48/56, 33d; 56/64, 3 l-8d; 64/72, 3d. Compared with last weed’s quotations, wethers u/481bs. and 56//721b5., 3d per lb. lower; 48/56 lbs., l-8d per lb. lower; ewes, 48/561bs„ l-8d per lb. lower. Others unchanged. The lamb market is unchanged. There is little or no demand for mutton. The market continues weak, particularly for prime wethers.
