ADDINGTON SALE PRICES EASIER (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. There were exceptionally heavy entries at today's Addington market and prices eased as a consequence. Next week is national market and it is not unusual for heavy entries to come forward at the preceding sale. The day was cold and wet, the seventh Wednesday in succession, and this did not improve the appearance of the stock, or attendance of buyers. Of an entry of store sheep, about 700 head, only a little more than half, were sold. The only price of note was 20s 4d for forward two-tooth wethers. The fat sheep penning was the heaviest for some years, approximating 7500 head. A small proportion of prime sheep sold about Is a head cheaper, but light wethers were down by 2s 6d a head, and light ewes by 3s, or about 4s a head below export rates six weeks ago. There were heavy passings in the later stages of the market Prices were: —
Sheep: Prime wethers sold at from 30s to 32s 6d; good, 27s to 295; light, down to 21s; best ewes made up to 21s; tops, to 23s lOd; prime, 15s to 17s; light, from 8s to 10s. Fat cattle: There was a heavy yarding of cattle. A big proportion of prime steers being included. These sold at fully 20s a head cheaper. Good heifers and cows showed little change. Best steers made from £l2 10s to £l5; tops, to £l6 7s 6d; good medium, £ll to £l2; light, down to £8 10s; best heifers, to £ll 17s 6d; cows, to £ll 7s 6d; good heifers, £8 15s to £10; cows, £8 to £9 10s; light, down to £5 10s. Good beef sold at from 32s to 33s a 1001 b, and a few tops to 355; medium 29s to'3ls 6d.
Fat pigs: There-was a keen sale for pork which made from 7|d to BJd per lb, in some cases to BJd, the highest price for a long time. Porkers sold from £2 Is 6d to £3 7s 6d; choppers, £2 16s to'£6 Ils; baconers, £3 9s 6d to £5 9s 6d; average, price per lb, 6Jd to 71 d, JOHNSONVILLE VALUES PRIME BULLOCKS SELL WELL A large yarding of cattle and an average of sheep came forward for the Johnsonville sale. Only a few pens of prime heavy bullocks came forward, the balance of the yarding consisting of medium-weight and unfinished cattle. Prime heavy bullocks met with good competition, with prices firm on last week’s rate. Medium-weight cattle met with no alteration, while light and unfinished bullocks were easier by 5s to 10s a head. The yarding of cows and heifers was ?.of good quality, with keen competition for'! prime heavyweight Sorts, price showing no alteration. -Medium; and light station cows were easierby 5s a head. No alteration for cows ex dairy. Heavy runners were r firm and up by 5s a head on last week’s rate. Vealers met with no alteration.)
No heavyweight wethers came forward, the yarding consisting chiefly of light and medium-weight sheep. All classes sold readily, with no alteration in price?-, A good sale resulted for all classes of ewes, with prices firm -on last week. Sheep: Prime extra heavy wethers, > 28s 6d to 27s Id; prime heavy wethers, > 26s lOd to 26s 3d; medium wethers, 25s lOd to 21s; prime extra heavy ewes, [ 22s to 21s; prime heavy ewes, 20s 9d • to 20s; ewes, 19s 6d to 18s 6d.
MASTERTON SALE FAT WETHERS FIRMER IN PRICE. Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report:—We held' our weekly sale at Masterton yesterday, when an entry of sheep' in excess to advertised numbers was submitted to a good attendance. Fat wethers were . firmer than last week but there was no move in the fat ewe market. Breeding ewes met with fair competition while store wethers and hoggets were firm on last sale. We offered a particularly attractive line of woolly ewe hoggets on behalf of Mr C. Holmwood, which were sold for 295. Other prices are as follow: —Fat ewes, 16s to 16s 6d; fat b.f. 2-ths., 23s 4d; ewes, r.w. S.D. ram, 18s to 22s 6d; b.f. 2-ths., 19s 3d; 2-th. wethers, 20s 6d to 22s 3d; b.f. hoggets, 14s to 16s; w.f.w. hoggets (good), 18s 4d; medium, 14s 6d to 15s Bd. We also offered a team of draught horses on behalf of the estate W. H. Buick, which sold as under:—— draught mare, “Jean,” £37; 1 draught mare, “Bell,” £36 10s; 1 draught mare “Rose,”. £27; 1 draught gelding, “Paddy,” £3B; 1 draught gelding, “Nigger,” £24; 3-yr. filly, £34; 2-yr. colt, £24. FARMERS’ DISTRIBUTING CO. The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-op. Distributing Co., Ltd., offered good entries of sheep and cattle. Fat sheep sold at prices on a par with those ruling last week. There was an improved demand for hoggets while breeding ewes were a shade easier. There was little change in the cattle market. Quotations: —Fat ewes, 16s to 18s; b.f. m.s. hoggets, 14s; f.m. ewes in lamb, 12s; cull,. 6s to 10s. Fat steers, £9 5s to £10; fat heifers, £7 to £8; fat cows, £6 15s to £7 10s; dairy cows, £4 to £7; best weaner pigs, 16s to 18s; others, 8s to 15s. DALGETY & CO. A good entry of all classes of sheep
was offered by Dalgety and Company. Included in the entry were some good lines of ewes, r.w. ram. They attracted keen attention, and one line of 311 s.f.m. ewes r.w. S.D. rams, offered on account of Mr S. Dalgleish, made 23s 4d. Hoggets were in demand, and any showing quality made good values. They report a total clearance as follows:—Sheep: S.M. ewes, r.w. S.D. rams, 23s 4d; others, 20s to 225; m.a. ewes, r.w. S.D. rams, 22s 4d; cull ewes, r.w. S.D. rams, 9s to 11s 4d; medium w.f. ewe hoggets, 18s 3d; heavy prime fat hoggets, 28s. ■■ N.Z. LOAN & MERCANTILE. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency had a good yarding of sheep and cattle. Fat sheep remained at late rate?, except wethers, which showed a slight improvement. Store sheep met a strong demand at late rates. Dairy cattle met a fail- sale at recent market values. Prices were: — Sheep: Light fat wethers, 25s 6d to 26s 6d; fat ewes, 15s to 16s 6d; fat maiden ewes, 22s 3d to 255; fat hoggets, 22s 3d to 25s 6d; small two-tooth wethers, 20s 6d; store ewes. 8s; small ewe lambs, 16s; small wether lambs, 12s 4d. Pigs: Weaners, 17s to 18s.. Cattle: Young cows, due August, £6 15s to £8; aged cows, £4 10s to £6 ss; fat cows, ex-dairy, £4 10s to £5 ss; store Jersey cows, £2 10s to £3 empty Jersey cross heifers, £3 to £3 7s 6d; yearling Jersey heifers, £2 17s 6d.
