DECISIVE WIN

ALL BLACKS DEFEAT NEWCASTLE ■ GAME STARTED AT GREAT PACE. RESULT NEVER IN DOUBT. NEWCASTLE, July 27. Only five members of the team that convincingly beat Australia in the first Test last Saturday played for the All Blacks against Newcastle at the Sports Ground this afternoon. They were Mitchell, the brilliant centre three-quar-ter and captain, and the wing threequarter, Phillips, and three forwards, George, Milliken and Bowman. New Zealand won by 39 points to 16 after leading 21 —5 at half-time. New Zealand always had something in hand and won easily, despite plucky tackling by Newcastle and fair success in spoiling tactics. New 'Zealand started at a great pace, Wesney kicking a goal in the first minute, and 10 points were up in 10 minutes, with play in Newcastle’s half for four-fifths of the time. Griffiths and Hooper were outstanding for New Zealand, and Wright scored four tries. Griffiths led most of the attacks, but the feature of the visitors’ play was tile speed and accuracy of their short passes, which were pretty to watch. Scorers for New Zealand were: Wright (four tries), Hooper (two), Cafson (one), and Milliken (one). Griffiths converted four tries and Wesney kicked a penalty goal and a field goal. Newcastle’s points came from tries by Steere and Brown. Brown converted two tries and kicked two penalty goals.
