WEATHER

Miss A. M. Brown reports as follows for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. today:— Barograph, 29.68. Shade temperature: Maximum 49.8, minimum 45.4, terrestrial 42.6. Rain, 60 points. Mr H. M. Boddington reports that 60 points of rain fell at Solway during the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. today. General situation: A deep depression is now centred over the Bay of Plenty and is moving eastward; an anticyclone of slight intensity is approaching across the Tasman Sea. Forecast: Strong south-easterly to southerly winds, reaching gale force in parts of the Straits but decreasing tomorrow. Weather overcast and showery, but improving gradually, more especially west of ranges. Temperatures cold.

Advice has been received (states the “Otago Daily Times”) that the oyster trawlers at Bluff will in the future take their supplies from what is known as the east bed in Foveaux Strait, this decision on the part of the oystermen being the result of complaints from retailers that the quality of the oysters dredged from the bed close to Bluff Hill has been very unsatisfactory during the past few weeks, it is anticipated that the working of the east bed will produce supplies of oysters of the best quality for the market.
