ROLLER SKATER’S FEAT

OVER TWO HUNDRED MILES COVERED. “Stunts” of physical endurance continue to be the vogue in Australia. Keith Wheeler, a 21-year-old Sydney man, is the latest to figure in one. He won a wager for £2O for' having travelled on roller skates the 220 miles from Sydney to Newcastle and return within 50 hours’ skating time. He did it in 47 hours. Wheeler made the trip to Newcastle in 19 hours 20 minutes skating time. The return journey took more than 27 hours. Only one pair of skates was used during the whole 220 miles. They were equipped with steel tyres to withstand wear.

At Newcastle Wheeler had two large blisters cut from his feet. Doctors declared that it would be impossible for his feet to withstand the return journey. But on his return, except for sore feet and slight tiredness he showed no effects from his effort. His worst trouble was loose top-dres-sing on bitumen roads, but he did not have a single fall.
