R.S.A. CONFERENCE

OPENED BY LORD GALWAY. MENTION OF AUSTRALIAN VISIT IN 1940. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The New Zealand R.S.A. conference was opened today by the GovernorGeneral (Viscount Galway). “It is pleasant to know that the Association is flourishing and continuing to make a link between all those who have served their country in times of stress,” his Excellency said. Every year delegates were a year older, but memories of a great comradeship continued to flourish. The conference discussions would further cement the link binding soldiers together. They had his hearty good wishes for the success of the conference. The Mayor (Mr T. C. A. Hislop) extended a welcome to the delegates. He made reference to the significance of the recent Anzac gathering at Syd-: ney. New Zealand was looking forward to the Centennial in 1940, and the opportunity of meeting the Australians. He hoped the present conference would further the work being done on behalf of returned soldiers. f The Hon F. Jones spoke personally and on behalf of the Government and indicated that the Government Would do its part when the Australian visit took place in 1940. At the request of the president (the Hon W. Perry) the visitors were given three cheers.
