CONDITIONS IN EUROPE

AN AUSTRALIAN JUDGE’S OBSERVATIONS. PENURY IN CONTINENTAL COUNTRIES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. The sharp contrast in Britain compared with Continental countries was commented on by the Hon F. S. Boyce. K.C., Judge of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and formerly At-torney-General of that State, on his return by the Piangitata today. He was in Vienna two days before the German coup. There was then very little indication of the dramatic events which followed. Judge Boyces-said that in Italy, Austria and Germany people were saving everything. It was difficult to get a piece of string, and sugar was handed out in little packages. One was glad to return to England, with its freedom and prosperity. He was impressed by the way in which New Zealand products were advertised throughout Britain. In small towns he saw pictures of fat New Zealand lambs in luxurious pastures. Accompanied by his wife and daughter, Judge Boyce is holidaying in Rotorua before returning to Australia. He has twice walked the Milford Track and agrees that it is the most beautiful walk in the world.
