CONTROL ESTABLISHED
MINISTERS APPEAL FOR PEACE. (Recd This Day, 11.25 a.m.) RANGOON, July 26. One policeman is dead and 22 Indians, eleven Burmans, and eight policemen were injured, in the rioting. The Yorkshire Light Infantry are standing by, armed with machine-guns. A cordon has been placed round the riot area and the situation is under control. Ten thousand vernacular leaflets signed by the Prime Minister and Home Minister appeal to the public for peacefulness. A “Gazette” proscribing the offensive book is being issued in the morning.
