ESPERANTO

MEETING OF MASTERTON CLUB. The weekly meeting of the Masterton Esperanto Club was held last evening in the club room, Municipal Buildings. The president, Mr A. Dewar, D.8.E.A., announced that during the week postcards in Esperanto had been received from Spain, journals from China, Spain and Italy, and publicity matter from Czechoslovakia, Switzerland and Japan, the despatch from Japan comprising the Esperanto translation of a parliamentary speech by the Japanese Minister for External Affairs, also booklets relating to the economic state of the country during the present conflict with China and to Japanese architecture. A collection of Esperanto brochures, mainly in illustrated form, issued by various governments, municipalities and trade fairs in 18 countries and appertaining to the New Zealand Esperanto Association was displayed by the Dominion Secretary, Mr W. H. King. The display presented striking evidence of the increasing use of the international language in the furtherance of tourist traffic trade. The usual tuition, provided by Mr King, included conversational practice in Esperanto and afforded members an excellent opportunity to speak the language. The concluding item was a reading (“Imperia Ekspozicio ce Glasgovo”).rendered by Mr E. J. Esler.
