BLUFF OYSTERS

NEW PATCH DISCOVERED EXCEPTIONALLY FINE QUALITY IN FOVEAUX STRAIT (By Telegraph—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, July 25. The discovery of a new oyster patch in Foveaux Strait, which, it is claimed, has not hitherto been worked, has been reported at Bluff. The area is stated to lie to the east of what is known as the east bed. Although the size and capacity of the new ground have not yet been detemined, the oysters taken from this patch are claimed by the pystermen to be of the finest quality brought to Bluff for many years. This new patch—it is not known whether it is of sufficient size to be termed a bed—was discovered by Messrs N. and R. Roderique, of Bluff, who collected 70 sacks during the first day’s operations. They subsequently made their discovery known and there was a rush by oystermen to the locality, various boats returning with from 50 to 70 sacks. The average catch of good oysters during the season has been from 25 to 30 sacks. It is claimed that the oysters taken from this patch are of exceptionally fine quality, being large and firm with a heavy shell.
