BRITISH MEAT IMPORTS
HOME AGRICULTURE AND LIVING COSTS. OPPOSED VIEWS IN HOUSE OF COMMONS. (Recd This Day, 10 a.m.) LONDON, July 25. In the House of Commons the Minister of Agriculture, Mr W. S. Morrison, informed Major-General Sir A. W. F. Knox that imports of New Zealand and Australian ewe mutton would show an increase during the current quarter, but that imports of lamb would show a decline. Major-General Knox said a reduction of 8 per cent was insufficient to restore prosperity to the British industry. Mr G. A. Griffiths (Lab, Hemsworth) said lots of people who were unable to buy British meat would starve if imports were prevented.
