STATEMENT DENIED

PAN-AMERICAN AIRWAYS’ PLANS BOEING CLIPPERS DEFINITELY FOR N.Z. RUN (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 25. A statement by Mr Judge Wood, Post Office Inspector in Honolulu, who is a through passenger by the Mon* ■ terey from Sydney, that it is highly likely that the new 6000-horse power Boeing clippers which are being- built for Pan-American Airways at Seattle will not come to New Zealand, but that two will replace those on the San Francisco-Hong Kong route and the other four will be commissioned for the trans-Atlantic service is contradicted by Mr Harold Gatty, special representative of Pan-American . Airways in New Zealand and Australia. “The information Mr Wood has is not up to date and is not in accord with the advice sent to me,” said Mr Gatty. “He has no authority to make statements for the company and the statement is not in agreement with the latest information to hand. “The Martin clippers on the China run were specially designed for that service and there is no intention to use them on the New Zealand route,” Mr Gatty continued. “It is definitely the intention of the company to use the Boeings, which are now undergoing tests, on the Auckland run.” Mr Gatty added that it was expected that the New Zealand service would be resumed before .the end of this year.
