WRESTLING
BLOMFIELD DISQUALIFIED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Modern wrestling at its best was seen by a well-filled house at the Wellington Town Hall last night, when Vincent Lopez beat Lofty Blomfield. Lopez secured a fall 'with a boston crab in the fourth round, and Blomfield evened with a flying tackle and body press in the sixth. The end came in the seventh round, when, following a series of powerful elbow jolts and butts, Blomfield hurled the Mexican through the ropes, and struck him while he was out of the ring, for which he was promptly disqualified by the referee, Mr A. Jenkins. While both men freely indulged in flying tackles and elbow jolts, the bout was marked by much clever legitimate wrestling, which greatly pleased the spectators. ,
A WIN FOR DETTON. AUCKLAND, July 25. Dean Detton and Pat Fraley met for the second time in New Zealand in a professional wrestling contest tonight. As was the case in Wellington recently, Detton was again successful by a submission fall. This was obtained early in the second round, when he sent his opponent sprawling with a solid forearm jolt. He then viciously applied a step-over toehold which forced Fraley to give in. Detton set a very fast pace over the earlier rounds, during which he showed his undoubted class. The speed
with which, he applied holds and countered them was surprising, and obviously had Fraley worried. In the last two rounds, however, Detton adopted more of a defensive role, enabling Fraley to show up to much better advantage.
