HARRIER ACTIVITIES

KIATERE CLUB REWANUI CUP WON BY D. NELSON On Saturday over a 61 mile course, the Rewanui Cup, presented by Mr R. Liverton, was competed for. The race this year has been made more interesting by Mr and Mrs Bell, who donated a handsome silver cup for the second runner home. D. Nelson gained a well-merited win, and from the start made the most of his handicap (smin), J. -L, Burns, off 6min, was also responsible for a good effort, and with these two competitors maintaining a sound pace throughout, the back markers were allowed no respite. twenty competitors faced the starter, Mr L. A. Askew, and the final placings and times are as follow: —D. Nelson (5 min), 42min 7sec, 1; W. Burns (15sec), 42min 37sec, 2nd; Al McDonald (2min lOsec), 43min 7sec, 3rd; J. L. Burns (6min), 43min 12sec, 4th. Fastest times were recorded by W. Burns in 37min 2sec, with R. Greeks second, 37min 19sec, and Al McDonald third, his actual time being 38min 52 sec. It is noteworthy, that in the three years the Rewanui Cup has been completed for W. Burns has filled the position of runner-up. On Saturday he made a gallant attempt to lift this coveted trophy, however, this year he will not go unrewarded with Mr and Mrs Bell’s trophy. Next week’s run will be the 61 mile club championship to be held at the Solway show grounds.
