PLEA REJECTED
RETENTION OF LICENCE SOUGHT. BY MOTORIST CONVICTED OF INTOXICATION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, July 25. “The Courts have decided that ,a licence must go even if a man is dependent upon it to earn a livelihood,” said Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., after listening to a strong plea on behalf of a defendant who was charged with driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated. The magistrate imposed a fine of £l5 and cancelled licence for twelve months. The defendant was John Albert Taylor, an engineering fitter, aged 47. Both counsel and the manager of the firm employing defendant strongly urged the retention of his licence, whereupon the magistrate made the observation quoted.
