DARWIN EPISODE
ALLEGED ILL-TREATMENT OF JAPANESE CHARGE AGAINST DRUNKEN SAILORS SYDNEY, July 24. A stir has been caused in naval and political circles at Canberra by a report from Darwin that drunken sailors from the naval aircraft-carrier, Albatriss, en route to England, behaved in a most disorderly manner during their brief stay at Darwin. Allegations are that the men took possession of the town and grossly illtreated a young Japanese, which is likely to be the subject of a consular complaint. The Minister of Defence, Mr H. V. C. Thorby, has received a naval report, which declares that the affair is greatly exaggerated.
