TRIUMPHANT SUCCESS
ROYAL VISIT TO FRANCE EXCHANGE OF MESSAGES PARTNERSHIP OF NATIONS (British’ Official Wireless.) RUGBY, July 23. All newspapers - in leading articles point to the triumphant success of the Royal visit to France. “The Times” says: “This visit indicates that Britain and France are still comrades in the appeasement of European nations and the establishment of peace and justice. The two Governments agreed last April to collaborate on the defence, not only of their common interests, but also of those ideals of national and international life uniting them. There exists between them a partnership which technically is something less than an alliance and psychologically is something more. President Lebrun sent the following telegram to the King and Queen:—“l thank Your Majesties, with very deep emotion, for the touching message you sent me yesterday. I shall be happy to convey to the' Government and the French people the sentiments Your Majesties so kindly expressed following those unforgettable days in Paris. The entire French people welcomed Your Majesties with enthusiasm, and your visit will always remain engraved in their memory, as a most striking incident of a bond which united our two countries, which, after having shared the same trials, pursue with the same ideal of liberty a common policy for prosperity and general peace.” The King and Queen left London this afternoon for Sandringham. J It is learned that the King addressed to M Daladier, as Minister of War, the following message .after Thursday’s military review: “I should be glad if you would communicate to all the troops who participated in the military parade under the command of General Billotte my warmest congratulations upon their magnificent presentation and superb parade, which greatly impressed me.”
HIS MAJESTY’S REPLY. NEW ZEALAND MESSAGE APPRECIATED. The following reply has been received from his Majesty to the message conveyed by the Governor-Gen-eral, Lord Galway, on behalf of the Government and people of New Zealand: — “Please tell the Government and people of New Zealand how warmly I appreciate the sentiments expressed by you on the occasion of the unveiling of the Australian National War Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux. The people of Australia, will, I know, be deeply touched by this tribute from comrades in arms who shared with them the deeds of heroism and selfsacrifice that will make the name of Anzac live for ever. GEORGE R. 1.”
