WORK OF PARLIAMENT

THE FINANCIAL DEBATE LEGISLATION IN PROSPECT (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. It is anticipated that the greater part of the next fortnight will be occupied, in the House of Representatives, by the Financial Debate. When this has been disposed of, the social security legislation will be introduced. It seems likely that the Bill embodying the Government’s proposals for national superannuation and health insurance will, in its main principles, be very much on the lines of the announcements already made by the Prime Minister, the Rt Hon M. J. Savage, and confirmed by the committee presided over by the Rev A. H. Nordmeyer (Government, Oamaru), which reported to the House on Friday. A great many details, , particularly with regard to finance, will have to be explained when the legislation is before Parliament.

Consideration will also have to be given to the Education Amendment Bill, and there will be a Statutes Amendment Bill, a Bill dealing with children’s health camps, a Finance Bill, an Appropriation Bill, and doubtless other measures. It seems that the House will have to keep steadily at work if the programme is to be completed, as the Prime Minister has forecasted, by the end of September.
