MINIATURE RIFLES

WAIRARAPA MEETING. CHAMPIONSHIP WON BY B. R. JENKINS OF MASTERTON. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual championship meeting of the Wairarapa Miniature Rifle Association was held in the Crown Theatre. Greytown, on Saturday, and proved to be a success from every point of view One hundred shooters from Longburn, the Bush district, Wairarapa and Wellington took part. Despite the fact that decimal targets were used throughout the meeting extraordinary good marksmanship was shown especially in the concluding match when possibles and a decimal participated in the money. A new innovation in rifle shooting was an optional pairs aggregate which created. a great deal of interest. This event was in the capable hands of Mrs G. King and Mr L. G. Rasmussen. The association’s secretary (Mr C. J. DeLacey) with the assistance of Mr H. Rolls and a very capable president and executive committee had all the details well in hand and consequently the meeting was Capably managed. The scrutineers, Messrs G. W. Busby, C. J. Nix, P. A. Wilton, G. Te Whaiti and D. J. Flynn, did their work expeditiously and well and no complaints were forthcoming. The range officers, headed by Mr R. P. Wakelin, kept the shooters on the mark throughout the meeting. The target stewards, headed by Mr K. McKenzie, were efficient officers, as also were the respective markers.

The champion shot of the meeting was B. R. Jenkins, of the Masterton Club, who did remarkably good.shooting throughout the day. When he went down in the first squad of the final ten he had 300.1 to his credit. He came back from his shoot in this event with a decimal better than any of the ten competitors, his reading being 100.9 and a grand total of 401 points. Mr Jenkins is only a young shot and is to be complimented upon his fine record. At the conclusion of the meeting the president of the association, Mr Wm. Johnson, Featherston, presented the trophies won and thanked everyone for their assistance in making the gathering such a success, especially those shooters who had come long distances.
