MASTERTON GUN CLUB
CLAY BIRD' CHAMPIONSHIP AYON BY D. S. McKENZIE The Masterton Gun Club fired the match for the clay bird championship on Saturday afternoon. The' conditions were 30 birds, all competitors standing on the 16 yard mark. The shooting was of a particularly good standard. D. S. McKenzie was the only shooter to break all birds and took the championship for the second year in succession —a very good performance. He was closely followed by Jim McKenzie with 29 birds, and three shooters broke 28. The following are the leading scores: D. S. McKenzie 30 Jim McKenzie 29 K. McLachlan 28 ' J. W. McKenzie 28 W. H. Saunders 28 C. E. Grey 26 F. Taplin 26 J. Udy 25 K. Ingley 23 J. U. Smith 23 There were 18 competitors. Afternoon tea was provided by Mrs J. C. Smith. On behalf of the club Mr R. J. King made a presentation to Mr and Mrs Smith, and expressed the thanks and appreciation of the members for the many kindnesses extended to them. The following is the list of trophies won by members of the Masterton Gun Club and presented by the President, Mr R. J. King, at the conclusion of the shoot: —

Combined aggregate: D. S. McKenzie’s trophy, K. Ingley, 1; D. McLachlan’s trophy, Jack McKenzie, 2. Next Saturday the club will hold a special match for a trophy presented by Mr Laird Meredith.
