CARTERTON

SAVAGE CLUB VISIT. ' (“Times-Age” Special.) The Braves of the Masterton Savage Club under the command of Big Chief R. Jenkins, raided the Carterton Savage Club on Saturday evening, and .were accorded a characteristic reception. On arrival Big Chief Jenkins assumed control of proceedings, being installed into the chair by Big Chief A. E. Hall, of the Carterton club. The Masterton Savages provided the programme and showed .undoubted skill in various songs, instrumental items, and sketches. The opening selection was given by the Masterton Orchestra, and the programme, which was of exceptional merit, was much enjoyed. At the Buttery Hatch adjournment the toast of the Masterton Savages was proposed by Big Chief A. E. Hall and responded to by Big Chief Jenkins. Savage D. J. Irwin proposed an additional toast, that of the visitors, and Paleface L. Keedwell- suitably acknowledged the compliment. LABOUR PARTY FUNCTION There was a large attendance at the dance and euchre tournament conducted by the Carterton Labour Party Social Committee, in the Band Hall on Saturday evening. The music was supplied by Mr D. Le Sau, and Mr C. Hewitson. An extra was played by Mr J. Blake (jun.), Miss E. Manson (Christchurch) gave considerable pleasure by her Scotch dancing. The Monte Carlo dances were , won by Miss Madge Green and Mr J. Steffert and Miss M. Green and Mr J. Lenihen (jun). The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr L. Uprichard. The prizes in the card tournament were won as follow: —Ladies, Mrs Miller, 1; Mrs K. Hodder, 2; Men, Mr Grimstone, 1; Mr J. Sexton, 2; Consolation, Mr K. Hodder. The capable way in which the sit ' down supper was arranged was due to the energetic work of the Ladies’ Committee, including Mesdames Green, Anderson, Beng and Obery.
