FEATHERSTON

LEAGUE OF MOTHERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the League of Mothers was held in the Parish Hall yesterday afternoon. Mrs Arch Clark presided. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs F. W. Burt and Mrs Carter. Mr Harkness (Featherston) gave an interesting talk. The tea hostesses were Mesdames Ayre, Kilsby, F. Clarke, and Lang. WOMEN’S DIVISION. The monthly meeting of the Pahautea branch of the Women’s. Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Pahautea Hall yesterday afternoon. Mrs Farquhar presided over a good attendance. Members took the opportunity to bid farewell to Mrs Rankin, who will shortly leave the district. Mrs Rankin was presented with a shoulder spray and crystal honey jar. A playreading was given by Mrs Friend, Mrs Grant, Mrs Farquhar and Miss Corlet. Afternoon tea was served, the tea hostesses being Mrs Bargh and Mrs McKay.' The competition for the best knitted baby’s singlet was won by Mrs McKay. BADMINTON MATCH. A team from Martinborough visited Featherston on .Wednesday and though the local club was defeated the games were interesting and provided useful experience for our young club. There were 12 games played, the results being:—Men’s doubles: Grant and Beveridge (Martinboroiigh) v O’Neale and Clark, 21-15; Evans and Davidson v Feast and Jackson, 21-7; Ronalds and Usher v Thurston and Fairbrother, 21-15. Combined doubles: Grant and Mrs Turner v J? Tutbury and O’Neale, 21-9; Beveridge and Miss Mitchell v Tutbury and Clark, 21-15; Davidson and Miss Kershaw v Miss Trotman and Feast, 21-6; Evans and Miss Hall v N; Ritchie and Jackson, 21-9; Usher and F. Mitchell v G. McTaggart and Fairbrother, 14-21; Ronalds and Miss Levy v K. Rowles and Thurston, 21-18. Ladies’ doubles: Miss Mitchell and Mrs Turner v J. Tutbury and' N. Ritchie, 21-20; Miss Hall and Miss Mitchell v Misses Trotman and Rowles, 21-15; Misses Kershaw and Levy v Misses Trotman and McTaggart, 21-3. The visitors were entertained to supper.

R.S.A. BALL. The committee of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, who have been canvassing for the supper for the ball next week, ,have met with considerable success. CHORAL SOCIETY. On Wednesday evening members of the Choral Society held a social in the Parish Hall to mark the occasion of Mr Booth’s last practice as conductor. Members gave several choruses from “Merrie England,” Mrs Houston a song, and Mr J. Buck a pianoforte solo. Mr F. Clarke (president) expressed the regret of the Society at losing the services of such an able conductor, and thanked Mr Booth for his work and interest he had taken in the .society. Mrs Booth, who had been an active member, was going to be missed also. Mr Clarke then asked Mr Booth to accept a travelling case, and a gift for Mrs Booth. Mr Kenward, vice-president of the society, also referred to the loss to the society Mr Booth’s departure would be. Mr Booth, in replying, thanked the society members for their gifts, and spoke of the pleasure he had derived from his association with the society. Mrs Booth also added her thanks. After supper the function was brought to a conclusion with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
