THE ALLEGED ATTEMPT* ON LORD NUFFIELD THORNTON GIVES EVIDENCE DENIAL OF RAMSDEN’S ASSERTIONS By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. (Recd This Day, 9.45 a.m.) LONDON, July 21. At the resumption of the trial of John Bruce Thornton, the accused, giving evidence, denied the whole of Ramsden’s allegations regarding the kidnapping of Lord Nuffield, which he declared were ridiculous and “never discussed by me or by Ramsden in my presence.” Thornton added that he had'been a member of the Royal Thames Yacht Club since 1926. He had owned surgical instruments and firearms for years, as the latter might be useful for yachting in foreign waters., “When Ramsden asked me to get an interview with Lord Nuffield regarding a carburettor in which he was interested, Thornton stated, I replied: “I don’t know Lord Nuffield.” Referring to a "letter mentioned in evidence, Thornton said it was a part of his cinema story which Ramsden suggested. He explained that the letter was not originally headed: “To Lord Nuffield,” but on May 24, he discovered those words had been inserted. The judge asked to see the cinema story. Thornton produced a document which he said had been written in prison at the request of his solicitor, adding that the story had been written and destroyed many times.
