UNIVERSAL PEACE

REFORMATION OF INDIVIDUAL IMPERATIVE. As a nation is but an aggregation of individuals bound by racial or political ties, it is plain that reformation of the nation must begin with the reformation of the individual, writes Mr George Shaw Cook in the “Christian Science Monitor,” Therefore, it is evident that national reformation of thought about war must begin with individual reformation. Every mortal has within his own mentality the phases of evil which make war possible. The evil phases of mortal mentality which, when fanned into activity, incite war are hatred, resentment, revenge, lust, greed dishonesty, tyranny, pride, fear, etc. Only when the consciousness of the individual has been purged of these errors by divine love can he be considered truly peaceable or peaceful. When the individual is thus completely transformed there is no likelihood of his quarrelling with his neighbour. When the community and nation of which he is a citizen are in like manner reformed, there will be little danger of strife with other communities or nations. When all the nations of the earth are reformed through right thinking, war will cease, for its cause will no longer exist.
