PRICES AT JOHNSONVILLE. PRIME SHEEP IN DEMAND. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. There was a large yarding of both cattle and sheep at the Johnsonville sale yesterday. All prime quality bullocks met with a ready sale with no alteration in price, while light and unfinished cattle were easier by 10s to 15s a head. Extra prime heavy cows and heifers met with keen competition with prices firm on those ruling last week. Light and mediumweight cows were easier by 5s to 10s a head. The demand for all prime sheep was keen. Good quality wethers sold readily with no alteration, and mediumweight and unfinished sheep were easier by Is to Is 6d a head. There was little competition for ewes, with a demand only for prime heavy sheep. There was frequent passing throughout the sale. Hoggets and lambs met with little demand with no alteration. Prices ranged as follow: — Cattle: Prime extra heavy bullocks, £l5 10s to £l4; prime heavy bullocks, £l3 15s to £l3 ss; heavy bullocks, £l3 to £l2 ss; light and unfinished bullocks, £ll 5s to £9 2s 6d; extra prime heavy cows and heifers, £lO 12s 6d to £lO 2s 6d; prime heavy cows and heifers, £9 5s to £8 18s; cows and heifers, £8 5s to £6 12s; vealers, £2 15s to 355; small calves, 15s to 10s. Sheep: Prime extra heavy wethers, 28s 6d to 26s 3d; prime heavy wethers, 26s to 255; medium wethers, 24s 6d to 23s lOd; prime extra heavy ewes, 21s 6d to 18s 9d; prime heavy ewes, 18s 6d to 15s lOd; medium ewes, 15s 7d to 15s 3d; heavy hoggets, 25s 6d to 21s 6d; light hoggets, 20s to 17s 7d; heavy spring iambs, 25s to 21s; medium spring lambs, 20s to 18s 3d; light spring lambs, 18s to 17s 3d.

LITTLE CHANGE RECORDED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 20. There was little difference in the total entries at today’s Addington sale from those of last week. There were more fat sheep and fewer fat cattle. Only nondescript lines of store sheep came forward and they made low prices. Sound and failing mouthed ewes sold at 11s 2d and two-tooth wethers to 16s. The penning was one of the smallest for many seaso.ns. About 5000 fat sheep were penned, including more good quality sheep. In the earlier stages there was a stronger demand, but it eased- later, and in the final race most of the sheep were passed. Prime wethers sold from 29s to 31s, tops to 34s 4d, good medium weights 26s to 28s 6d, and light down to 225, good ewes 21s to 235, tops to 26s 7d, light down to 10s. More than 465 fat cattle were penned, mostly good class steers and heifers. The market showed little change for prime steers, which were about 10s head cheaper, but a good display of prime heifers were as much as 15s down. Best steers sold'from £l3 10s to £l4 15s, tops to £l6 17s 6d, medium prime £ll 10s to £l3. Heifers £9 to £l6 10s, extra good to £l2 7s 6d, medium £7 to £8 10s, light down to £6. Good cows £8 10s to £9 10s, tops to £ll 15s, rough down to £4 15s. Good beef made from 32s to 34s a 1001 b., special to 355, medium down to 28s 6d. Fat pigs: There was a keen sale of porkers which made from £1 17s 6d to £3 6s 6d, average price a lb. 7d to Bd. Baconers £3 7s 6d to £5 9s 6d, average a lb. 6Jd to 7)d. Baconers were a shade easier.

MASTERTON SALE.

PRICES VERY FIRM. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report having held their weekly sale yesterday when they had a fair yarding of store sheep which were offered to a large attendance. Bidding at auction was keen and they had a total clearance at auction at prices considered very firm at late rates. Quotations: —Fat ewes, 17s; fat and forward wethers, 23s to 23s sd; fairly good woolly wether hoggets, 17s Id to 17s, 6d; small wether hoggets, 12s Id; very small ewe hoggets, 12s. Forward Jersey cows, £3 10s.

N.Z. FARMERS’ DISTRIBUTING CO.

The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-op. Distributing Co., Ltd., offered good entries qf fat and store sheep and a small yarding of cattle. The following are some of the realisations: —Prime heavy wethers, 275; others, 255; prime ewes, 17s to 18s 3d; lighter, 115 s to 16s; fat lambs, 23s 8d; forward 2-tooth wethers, 22s Id to 23s sd. Store cows, £3 to £3 7s 6d; weaner steer calves, £2 4s; weaner heifer calves, £1 Us. Light porkers, 31s; slips, 16s 6d to 225.

WRIGHT STEPHENSON & CO., LTD.

Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report:—We held our weekly sale at Mastertori yesterday. Some very good quality pens of fats were offered, but elicited poor competition, and taking quality into consideration, we consider prices weaker than those of last week. There was more competition for store sheep, hogget selling slightly better. Following are the prices:—Fat ewes (prime), 19s 6d to 21s 6d; (medium), 16s to 18s: light, 13s 6d to 14s 6d; fat wethers, 23s 6d; fat b.f. 2-ths., 21s 6d to 235; (lighter), 20s to 21s; w.w. hoggets, 14s 6d to 15s 6d; b.f. hoggets,

13s to 15s 8d; (small), 9s 6d to Ils 2d; store b.f. 2-ths., 17s to 18s 6d. Weaner heifers, 30s.

DALGETY & CO., LTD.

Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report on their weekly Masterton sale held yesterday as follows: —A big entry of fat and a medium one of store sheep came forward and were offered to a large attendance of buyers. Store sheep were again in demand and prices were well up to those of last wpek, and in some cases showed an improvement. The fat ewes yarded were in excess of the demand with the result that prices obtained were under those ruling of late, but fat wethers were in demand and any finished sheep in this section were keenly sought after, selling at slightly improved rates. We report a total clearance as follows: —Fat wethers, 25s 6d, 25s 9d, 26s to 26s 6d; light fat wethers, 24s 2d, 24s 7d, 24s 9d to 255; fat down maiden ewes, 235, 23s 4d to 245; fat maiden ewes, 20s; fat b.f. m.s. 2-ths., 22s 7d, 235, 23s 3d to 23s 9d; fat heavy ewes, 17s. 17s 6d to 17s; light fat ewes, 14s 6d, 15s, 15s 4d to 15s 9d; light fat down ewes, 14s 9d.' Store sheep: 2 and 4-th. wethers, 22s 6d, 22s lOd to 23s 2d; m.a. ewes, r.w. S.D. ram, 21s 6d; store ewes, 8s 6d, 9s to 9s 7d; small w.f.w. hoggets, I3s id.
