MOTOR CAR TRAGEDY

OCCUPANT DROWNED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GORE, July 19. A fatal accident occurred on the Dunedin-Gore highway, four miles north of Clinton, yesterday, when a car driven by G. P. Latimer, Dunedin, with Thomas Waddell and W. Beal, of Gore, as passengers, skidded on the frozen surface of the road, plunged over a 15ft. bank, and landed in a creek, Mr Waddell being drowned. Messrs Latimer and Beal managed to scramble out of the window on the driver’s side, but Mr Waddell was trapped in the submerged cab for some minutes. When released, he was unconscious, and artificial respiration was applied to no avail.
