COUNTY ROUTED

BY SPIN BOWLERS NOTTS BADLY BEATEN. THE REAL BRADMAN IN ACTION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. (Recd This Day, 9.45 a.m.) LONDON, July 19. Bradman and Hassett reopened for Australia against Notts in sunny and cloudless weather. As the result of his innings of 144 today Bradman was the first cricketer in England to reach 2000 runs this season. A feature of the play before lunch was Hassett’s aggressive and confident batting. He monopolised the strike and heavily outscored Bradman, reaching his century in 110 minutes. Bowling the off theory, with a packed offside field, Heane and Harris sobered Hassett, who had difficulty in penetrating this defensive field. The partnership raised 200 runs in 130 minutes, and then, in trying to sweep Heane to leg, Hassett was easily caught at the wicket. In a brilliant innings today he added 54 runs in an hour. BRADMAN IN GOOD FORM. Bradman was sedate until he reached the century. Then he hit harder and the crowd finally saw the real Bradman in action. Hitting with tremendous force and perfect precision Bradman scored three consecutive 4’s off Gunn and pulled Marshall for a 6. Then, hitting recklessly, he was caught in the covers. He batted three hours and -hit one 6 and sixteen 4’s. With ten first class matches remaining Bradman has equalled Trumper’s record of eleven centuries in an Australian tour of England. Barnes and Chipperfield had valuable practice up to lunch, when Bradman declared, leaving three hours in which to dismiss Nottingham. A SURPRISE OPENING. Bradman surprisingly opened the attack with Waite and Hassett, the latter getting a wicket with his first ball in England.. The spin bowlers, O'Reilly, Fleetwood-Smith and Ward, however, did the major portion of the bowling and routed the County in 135 minjites.

Hardstaff alone batted with skill. He cut and drove confidently, reaching 50 in 70 minutes. Hardstaff batted 105 minutes and scored five boundaries. Australia won with three-quarters of an hour to spare. Australian won by 412 runs. The scores were as follow: — AUSTRALIA.
