PERSONAL.
The Rev Lex Kernohan, M.A., has completed the degree of B.D. at Edinburgh University, and will return to New Zealand in October. Mr A. H. T. Brazier has been appointed chief engineer to the Canterbury Aero Club. He has previously been in the employ of the club, and before his first appointment served with the Royal Air Force in the inspection branch.
Dr. A. L. Sutherland, medical missionary for the Presbyterian Church, and Mrs Sutherland, arrived at Wellington by train from Auckland yesterday. Dr Sutherland will leave Wellington by the Awatea next Friday for Australia to undertake post-graduate work in preparation for his return to India early next year. Mr Arthur Harper, of the Department of Internal Affairs, left f<sr Auckland yesterday to connect with the Monterey for San Francisco. Mr Harper is to represent the Government at the international town-planning and housing conference to be held in Mexico City next month. Mr Harper will probably be absent from Wellington until October.
On Monday night the staff of the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Distributing Company, Masterton, met to farewell Mr R. J. Miller, who has been transferred to the Feilding branch of the firm. On behalf of those present, Mr S. J. W. Gill made a. presentation to Mr Millex - and expressed best wishes for his future prosperity. Mr Miller suitably replied.
Mi - Denis Dowling, the well-known New Zealand singer, has been successful in obtaining his A.R.C.M. diploma at the Royal College of Music, London. Mi - Dowling was also recently associated with the Royal Choral Society as a soloist in the performance of “Hiawatha,” at the Albert Hall, London, under the baton of Di - Malcolm Sargent.
At the annual meeting of the Mana-watu-Wairarapa Employers’ Association, held at Palmerston North, the following officers were elected fox - the ensuing year:—President, Mr K. A. Henderson; vice-presidents, Messrs H. B. Free, H. W. Bovis; committee, Messrs W. H. Wilson, E. R. B. Holben, H. E, Townshend, E. F. Thwaites, G. Crossley, D. Roche, W| H. Brown, J. O. Boniface, J. Selwyn; auditor, Mr R. W. Priest.
Sympathetic reference was made at today’s meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board to the death of Dr H. T. Dawson, who recently -resigned from the position of medical superintendent of the Pahiatua Hospital. The chairman, Mr H. H. Mawley, said little could be added to the glowing tributes paid to the late Dr Dawson on the occasion of his retirement. A motion of sympathy was passed, members standing in silence.
