BASKETBALL
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. An executive meeting of the Wairarapa Basketball Association was held last evening, the president, Miss O. R. Sutherland, being in the chair. Arrangements for the second representative team’s match against Hutt Valley were made. If possible a match is to be arranged for the first representative team on the same day, August 6. On the same day there' will be a match between Woolworths, Palmerston North, and Woolworths, Masterton.
The representative team’s visit to Tirnaru was discussed and the secretary, Miss R. Edwards, reported that she had booked accommodation for the team. Miss R. Edwards was appointed captain and manager of the team, which, will elect its own vice-captain. Miss A. Shelton is to be asked to be delegate to the annual conference to be held in Tirnaru, commencing August 29.
The progress of the Queen Carnival was discussed and very encouraging reports made. It was agreed to endeavour to arrange a shop window display of basketball in order to arouse interest in the appeal for funds for the representative team. As the association makes no charge for admission to matches funds are very low and donations will be welcomed.
