The death of Queen Marie, Queen Mother of Roumania, is reported in a cablegram from Bucharest. The Hon P. Fraser, Minister of Education, returned to Wellington today from the Rotorua district. Mr G. T. Civil has been appointed coroner at Warkworth in succession to Mr A. J. S. Warin, who has resigned. Mr W. Jeffery has been appointed coroner for the Te Awamuau district. Messrs W. Ward and P. Watson, who were injured in a motor car collision on Opaki Road on July 7, are both making good progress. They have been discharged from hospital. The death occurred today of Mrs Ellen Westbury Hewitt, wife of Mr Francis Hewitt, of Coniston, Kopuaranga. The late Mrs Hewitt was the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs R. S. Abraham, of Palmerston North. The Rev L. A. North, who has been minister of the Oxford Terrace Baptist Church, Christchurch, for seven and a half years, will resign shortly to become general secretary of the New Zealand Baptist Union and Missionary Society. Dr Malcolm Sargent, the. eminent English conductor, who has been engaged by the Australian Broadcasting Commission for a season in Australia, is due to arrive at Melbourne on Monday next by the Orama. There is no arrangement for him to visit New Zealand this year. Mr Paul Schramm, the gifted pianist and conductor, who visited New Zealand last year, is due to arrive at Wellington by the Awatea from Sydney on Thursday next. Mr Schramm, who has been engaged for two successive years by the Australian Broadcasting Commission, has been the conductor of the Symphony Orchestra at Batavia (Java), but, as the climate does not suit his wife, has decided to settle in Wellington. Mrs Schramm is also a talented pianist. The death has occurred at Napier of Mr Joseph Sutherland Munro, at the age of 72. Born at Fearn, Scotland, Mr Munro was educated at Glasgow and arrived in New Zealand with his parents at the age of 17. He resided at Palmerston North until 1924, when he moved to Napier. While at Palmerston North Mr Munro became New Zealand District Chief Ruler of the Independent Order of Rechabites. He was also a prominent member of the Masonic Lodge. As superintendent of the Palmerston North Baptist Sunday School he gave splendid service to the youth of the Baptist congregation, and when he removed to Napier he became superintendent of the Baptist Sunday school there.
