CARTERTON
MINIATURE RIFLES. (“Times-Age” Special.) Up till Saturday evening the secretary of the Wairarapa Miniature Rifle Association had received 70 entries for the meeting to be held at Greytown"bn Saturday next. He has been notified of a further 40 entries with a chance of more to come, so that this year’s meeting should easily eclipse all other meetings in the matter of entries. INVALID’S CHAIR. The chair which is being built locally for Mr Dick Wilson was tried out on Saturday night by the recipient as to its mechanical running and is an excellent production from Mr C. Kemp Goodin’s cycle establishment. The chair itself is the work of one of Mr Goodin’s mechanics, Mr V. Lipinski, and is indeed a very fine piece of work. It has not yet been officially presented to Mr Wilson, but will be when the hood is completed., Mr Wilson is exceedingly pleased with the easy running of. the vehicle. PERSONAL. Mr and ’ Mrs N. R. Armstrong, of Carterton, who have been on a trip to Southland and Canterbury have returned home. The many friends of Mr Geo. Grimmer, Carterton, will regret to hear that his health is. causing his relatives and friends some anxiety. MOVIE BALL. The movie ball to be held in the State Theatre tonight promises to be the premier function of the year; Your correspondent had the opportunity of viewing some of the decorations on Saturday and'" they are on a very lavish scale. Alt the appointments are well in hand and patrons are assured of an enjoyable night’s enjoyment. NATIONAL PARTY MEETING. At the annual meeting of the Wai j rarapa electorate delegates of the National Party at Carterton on Saturday night there were 80 delegates present from all parts of the electorate, Miss O. Wolters and ’‘ Messrs L' Ji .Fairbrother and J. J. Maher were appointed delegates to the Dominion conference.
Mr J. F. Thompson,- the Party’s candidate, was present, and expressed his warm thanks for the cordial reception accorded him wherever he has spoken. He had attended the annual meeting of each branch and was very pleased with the enthusiasm shown by members. GAME BIRD CLUB FORMED. It has been decided to form a Game Bird Club in Carterton, and displays will be made at the Carterton and Lower Hutt shows. A bright red game cock which was exhibited in the recent poultry show at Carterton has been sold by Mr Laurenson to Mr F. Allen, of Masterton. The bird was one of the outstanding exhibits at the show. STREET IMPROVEMENTS. The Carterton Borough Council is making considerable improvements to Park Road and Dixon Street. Park Road is being curbed and channelled in concrete, and it will be taken as far as the Borough boundary. Dixon Street has been widened at the southern end to a full Chain, and is now uniform with the rest of the street. Drainage connections are being made with the various sections so as to be available when required, for any buildings erected in the. future. A larger water pipe is also being put in in anticipation of an increased supply being needed. This>street is also to be curbed and channelled.
