SAMUEL INSULL DEAD
END OF SPECTACULAR CAREER. PARIS, July 16. Mr Samuel Insull, former American multi-millionaire and financier, collapsed and died here today. Samuel Insull went to America as a boy in the service of Thomas Edison, and became one of the wealthiest men in the world. He became involved with a rival in a struggle to retain control of a huge interlocking system of financial companies, lodged stock at the bank as security for loans, and brought a receivership for Middle West Utilities. Insull was permitted to resign and left the country, and investigation of the enormously complicated affairs of his companies resulted in charges of malpractice being made against’him. After a long residence in Greece Insull left that country but was arrested in Turkey and at the request of the United States Government was deported from there. Insull was subsequently cleared of all the charges brought against him by the Federal and State Governments after his extradition.
