Because of the risk of fire, the boilerhouse whicli supplies the heat for the National Gallery, London, is built on the other side of a side street. A claim t'hat in some schools in Christchurch, pupils were required to prepare the teaching staff’s lunches and, in one school, to return early before the resumption of classes, to wash the dishes, was made at a' meeting of delegates to the Canterbury School Committees’ Association. This claim was niade oy Mr G. M. Harrison, but it received no support from other delegates. The chairman (Mr W. T. Langley) remarked that it was common for children to prepare morning tea for the staffs, but they were pleased to do this. He (had never heard of children being r equired to prepare lunches, and evidently Mr Harrison’s complaint had no* general application. .
