Ottawa, Canada.—lndicative of the existing optimism in Canada, the marriage rate is showing a definite increase this year. In the first four months of 1938 —the least popular period of the year—l 9,292 men and women took the marriage vows in the larger urban centres. This compares with 18,164 persons in the corresponding period of 1937, an increase of 564 marriages or six per cent.
