Postmaster’s Suggestion.
It was suggested by Mr W. G. Cooper, chief postmaster at Auckland, at the Auckland Chamber of Commerce council meeting, that the public would assist the postal authorities if th a names and addresses of senders were written on packets and newspapers, so that if for any reason the matter could not be delivered it could be returned to the sender. Sometimes newspapers did not have sufficient postage stamps affixed, or the addressee could not be found. “But i. would be of no use your putting ‘love from auntie,’ or something like that, on the envelope,” Mr Cooper said, amid laughter. An Inquiry from America. Prospects in the poultry industry in Canterbury are evident viewed favourably by a resident of the United States, Mr Richard R. Fernaid, of East Orange, New Jersey, for he has sent a letter to the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce asking to be supplied with the names of real estate brokers in Christchurch who have chicken farms for sale. Men interested in the poultry industry to whom the letter was mentioned said that although the price of eggs was high costs had also risen. The general opinion, however, was that there are good prospects in the poultry industry for men who are prepared to give it their full attention. The request is an unusual one for the chamber, according to the secretary (Mr J. Roy Smith), who said that it was a considerable time since a similar request had been received from overseas.
